DIY Solar Panels in Malaysia
These are the panels for a battery, a pump, a camera or a shed — not for your roof. The distinction matters more than any spec on this page, so it comes first.

These are not rooftop panels, and Google confuses the two
Search for solar panel prices in Malaysia and you will get quotes for whole rooftop systems — RM12,000 to RM55,000, sized in kilowatt-peak, installed by a SEDA-registered contractor and connected to your TNB supply. That is Solar ATAP, and it is what lowers your electricity bill.
The panels on this page are a different product with the same name. A 100W or 460W standalone module costs RM85 to RM450, arrives in a box, and charges a battery. It will run a pump, a light, a camera or a small off-grid setup. It will not reduce your TNB bill, because it is not connected to anything TNB can see.
If what you actually want is a lower electricity bill, our Solar ATAP guide and savings calculator are the right place to start, and nothing on this page is a substitute.
Ringgit per watt is the number that matters
Panels are commodity hardware and the industry quotes them per watt for good reason: it is the only way to compare a RM85 50W module against a RM450 460W one. Divide the price by the rated watts and the comparison becomes obvious.
Bigger panels are almost always cheaper per watt, which is the main argument for buying one large panel instead of several small ones — provided you have somewhere to put a panel roughly two metres long, and a way to carry it. Multi-panel bundles sometimes look cheaper per watt than they are, so check whether the price covers one panel or the set.
Voltage decides compatibility, not value. A 12V nominal panel (usually 18V open circuit) suits a 12V battery through a simple controller. Higher-voltage panels need an MPPT controller rated for them. Buying a panel your controller cannot accept is the most common expensive mistake in DIY solar.
Where the legal line sits
One line worth being clear about before you buy anything. A standalone 12V or 24V setup — panel, charge controller, battery, and appliances wired only to that battery — is yours to build, and nothing here touches your TNB supply. The moment any of it connects to your house wiring or feeds back to the grid, it is a different job legally: that needs a licensed electrical contractor, and for anything grid-tied, SEDA registration and TNB approval. Mixing the two is where DIY solar goes wrong in Malaysia.
Solar panels listed in Malaysia
Sorted by ringgit per watt, cheapest first — the standard way panels are compared. Listings that do not state a wattage, or that state an implausible one, cannot be ranked this way and appear at the end rather than being given an invented position.
Multi-panel bundles are priced as listed. Check on the Shopee page whether a price covers one panel or the whole set before ordering.

Common Questions
What is a good price per watt for a solar panel in Malaysia?+
The table above shows the current spread from the listings we track, and it is wide. As a rule, larger panels come in materially cheaper per watt than small ones, so if you have the space and can handle a two-metre module, the big panel is the better buy. Compare on the number rather than the headline price, because a RM450 panel can easily be better value than a RM85 one.
Can I put these panels on my roof and cut my TNB bill?+
No. These are standalone modules for charging a battery. Reducing your electricity bill requires a grid-tied system under Solar ATAP, installed by a SEDA-registered contractor and approved by TNB, because the saving comes from offsetting what you draw from the grid. A panel wired to a battery in your store room offsets nothing on your bill.
What is the difference between 12V, 18V and 24V panels?+
It is about compatibility with your charge controller and battery, not quality. A panel sold as 12V typically produces around 18V open circuit, which is what a 12V battery needs to charge through a controller. Higher-voltage panels need an MPPT controller rated to accept them. Check your controller's maximum input voltage before buying, and remember that wiring panels in series adds their voltages together.
Do I need SEDA approval for a DIY solar panel?+
Not for a standalone setup that never touches your house wiring — a panel, a controller, a battery and whatever runs off that battery is yours to build. The moment anything connects to your household circuits or exports to the grid, it needs a licensed electrical contractor, and for grid-tied systems SEDA registration and TNB approval.
How much power will a panel actually produce in Malaysia?+
Meaningfully less than its nameplate, and that is normal rather than a fault. Malaysia averages roughly 4 to 5 peak sun hours a day, and heat, dust, angle and cloud all reduce output. A 100W panel realistically returns somewhere around 350 to 450Wh across a good day. Size for that figure rather than for the nameplate multiplied by daylight hours.
Monocrystalline or polycrystalline?+
Monocrystalline, in nearly every case now. It is more efficient per square metre, performs slightly better in heat, and the price gap has largely closed — most of what is sold here is mono anyway. Polycrystalline is only worth considering if it is significantly cheaper per watt and you have space to spare.
What else do I need besides the panel?+
At minimum a charge controller sized for the panel, a battery, and correctly rated cable with MC4 connectors. The controller is not optional: connecting a panel directly to a battery will overcharge and destroy it. Our wiring guide covers the connectors and cable sizing.
