How We Make Money
Plainly, so you can judge our recommendations knowing exactly what is behind them.
Affiliate links on product pages
Our DIY and product guides link to Shopee Malaysia. Those are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, Shopee pays us a commission from the seller's margin. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you searched Shopee yourself — the commission comes out of the seller's side, not added to yours.
Commission rates differ by product and by shop, and we think you should know that they are not small differences. On the products we list, they range from 1% to 11%. We have found the same class of solar panel paying 1% from one shop and 4% from another.
We say this because it is the obvious way a site like this goes wrong: recommending whatever pays best. Where two products are close, we will say so rather than manufacture a winner, and where the better product pays us less, the better product still wins the recommendation.
What the prices on our pages are
Product prices are the Shopee listing price recorded when we last refreshed our catalogue, and each page states that date. Shopee sellers change prices frequently and run time-limited vouchers, so treat our figure as a guide and the Shopee page as the authority.
Some listings cover several variants at different prices; where we cannot be confident which variant a price refers to, we say so on the page instead of printing a number that looks precise. “Sold” counts shown as 9k+ are Shopee's own rounding — a floor, not an exact figure.
The installer directory
Our directory of SEDA-registered installers earns money differently. Installers can pay for a premium listing, which gives their profile a highlight and priority placement in listings. Premium listings are a paid placement and we mark them as such.
Paying does not affect whether a company appears at all, and it does not change their SEDA registration status, which comes from SEDA's public register and is not something we can sell. We also pass quote requests to installers, who may pay to receive them.
What we are not
We are not affiliated with SEDA, TNB, or any government agency, and we do not sell, install or service solar equipment. Our calculators produce estimates from published tariffs and typical system performance; they are not a quotation and not financial advice. For anything that affects your roof, your wiring or your TNB account, use a SEDA-registered installer.
If we get something wrong
Tell us. A wrong price, a dead link, a product that is not what we said it was — we would rather fix it than have you find out after buying. Last reviewed 2026.
